Elizabeth Stewart , certified appraiser of fine art and antiques, will be on hand to help us understand, enjoy and appraise the sometimes buried treasures of our lives!

Elizabeth Stewart has been hard at work in the appraisal field of art and antiques for 27 years. She has her certification with the American Association of Appraisers in NYC. Elizabeth graduated Magna cum laude from Tufts University in Boston, and received her MA in Historic Preservation and Museum Studies at the University of San Diego. She holds a PhD in Iconographic Studies in Art History .

Additionally, she is a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property, certified in both Fine Art, and Antiques and Residential Contents, and is a specialist in living American artists.

Locally, Elizabeth writes an “Ask the Appraiser” column, and hosts a weekly radio program on KZSB, covering the fine arts in Santa Barbara. She has appeared on the Antiques Road Show. Celebrity clients include The Jonathan Winters family and The Family of Kirk Douglas.

“New Year, New You: How to Live Better Through Fresh Foods”.

Suzanne Landry, Fresh Food Chef & Wellness Educator and Author of “The Passionate Vegetable” and “Fresh Food Matters” will be the featured presenter at the next Carpinteria Woman’s Club meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 11th at 7 pm.

She’ll demonstrate proper food preparation techniques while preparing a dish using locally grown produce.

Suzanne has over thirty years experience as an educator, cooking teacher and industry consultant and has inspired many people onto a healthier lifestyle. She developed the Nutrition Education Program for the renowned Issels Medical Cancer Center and is presently the Wellness Educator and Health Coach for Integrative Medicine Center of Santa Barbara. She will have signed copies of her books on hand for purchase.

January 14th Meeting Tai Chi & Qigong

Please join us for an uplifting presentation and demonstration: Tai Chi for the New Year: Easy Exercises and meditations for Balance, Peace and Health in 2015 with Jessica Kolbe, a Level 3 certified Tai Chi and Qigong instructor.

Qigong (pronounced chee-gung), is the practice of energy cultivation, Ancient Chinese exercises developed 2000 years ago for the health of our bodies, minds, emotions and our spiritual natures.  Slow,meditative exercises stretch our bodies, soothe the nervous system and bring peace to our minds.

Tai Chi (pronounced tie-chee), is a choreographed form of Qigong that focuses on balance and harmony for our bodies, and  in our everyday lives.

Both Tai Chi and Qigong are ancient Chinese exercises that promote optimal health, vitality and longevity.  The exercises greatly reduce stress of all kinds and gives the practitioner a sense of peace and happiness.  Qigong and Tai Chi improves physical health, mental, emotional health and balance.

The 4 components of Qigong, and Tai Chi are:

1.    Mindful movements, synchronized with the breath, gently exercise and stretch the body.

2.   Meditation relaxes and centers the body, mind and spirit.

3.    Self-applied massage of hands, feet, neck, ears and scalp stimulate acupressure points to improve organ function , the immune system, circulation and   energy flow.

4.    Deep breathing slows the heart rate and lengthens the breath  to promote the body’s natural healing Wear loose, comfy clothes if you wish to participate!

 

Jessica Kolbe leads Tai Chi and Qigong Classes in Carpinteria and Santa Barbara.  She is a Level 3 certified instructor and a senior teacher trainer for the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi.  She has studied with masters in China and all over the US.  Jessica specializes in Medical Qigong, Emotional Healing Qigong and Ancient Animal Frolics. You can watch or stream her TV show, Qigong with Jessica Kolbe, six times a week on TVSB, channel 17.  Jessica is passionate and convinced about the healing benefits of Qigong and Tai Chi and loves to help people activate their own healing abilities.
